ALEG’s Integrated Approach to Safety, Empowerment & Well-Being
At A.L.E.G., our mission is to provide women and girls with practical tools to navigate challenges, build resilience, and strengthen their sense of safety — both internally and externally. Our programs combine three complementary methodologies: Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD), trauma-informed mindfulness, and functional health-oriented yoga.
Together they create a comprehensive model that supports physical safety skills, emotional regulation, and long-term personal empowerment.
Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD)
A globally recognised, evidence-based methodology that focuses on preventing violence through:
-> boundary-setting
-> assertive communication
-> verbal de-escalation
-> situational awareness
-> simple, effective physical techniques
Classes usually last 1.5–2 hours and include a variety of topics related to personal safety and confidence. Each session combines short discussions, practical exercises, and movement-based practice, creating a balanced and supportive learning environment.
ESD is proven to increase confidence, decrease self-blame, and significantly reduce vulnerability to violence. It is trauma-sensitive, inclusive, and adaptable to different age groups and cultural contexts.
“Yoga for Health”
Our yoga practice focuses on:
-> functional movement
-> spinal health
-> mobility, balance, and strength
-> regulation of the nervous system
-> breathwork and stress management
It provides participants with body awareness and grounding skills that directly support their ability to respond effectively in stressful situations.
“Safe & Strong”: ESD + Mindfulness Program
This 6-session training integrates Empowerment Self-Defense (ESD) principles with mindfulness tools to create a holistic empowerment pathway.
Participants develop:
-> emotional intelligence and self-reflection
-> awareness of personal boundaries
-> the ability to stay calm under pressure
-> resilience and self-trust
-> practical physical responses to danger
Each class lasts 2 hours and includes a lot of practice and interaction between participants. The program focuses on simple, realistic skills that do not require exceptional strength and can be used in everyday life from the very first session.
“Safe & Strong” is designed with new trainers in mind: it is structured, clear, and easy to deliver while preserving professional quality and trauma-informed standards.
Why This Methodology Works
Our integrated approach:
-> strengthens autonomy and self-efficacy
-> reduces fear and increases adaptive coping skills
-> creates a safe community space for shared learning
-> supports well-being on physical, emotional, and cognitive levels
-> empowers participants to make safer, more confident decisions in daily life`
-> is accessible to women with diverse backgrounds, including refugees and survivors of violence
ALEG’s programs are successfully implemented across Romania and are continuously improved through international training, evidence-based practices, and direct participant feedback.
Our Commitment
ALEG is dedicated to providing safe spaces where women can, learn, heal, grow and reconnect with their inner strength.
We believe that empowerment is not a one-time lesson
— it is a lifelong skill that transforms communities.
