Is your future equal? Scenarios and Actions for Gender Equality in 2035

What might gender equality in Romania look like in 10 years from now? What signals from the present show us the direction we are heading towards? And most importantly: what can we do today to build a safer, fairer and more inclusive future?

These are the questions we explored during the workshop “Is your future equal?”, held in November 2025 as part of the Gender Equality Festival®, organised by A.L.E.G. Over the course of two days, more than 60 high school and university students, activists, entrepreneurs, educators, and representatives of public institutions worked side by side using the foresight method to examine the past, understand the present challenges, and imagine possible futures all the way to 2035.

This booklet brings together the reflections, ideas, and imagination of the participants. We invite you to explore the scenarios and actions as a source of inspiration and as a starting point for concrete steps we can take, whether as engaged citizens or as decision-makers, to build a more equal and just future in Romania.

What’s inside the booklet?

• a timeline of key milestones in the evolution of gender equality in Romania and of A.L.E.G.’s work over the past 20 years,
• 6 major challenges shaping gender equality today: deteriorating mental health, the rollback of gender equality policies, rapid technological change, tensions within social movements, shrinking access to sexual and reproductive health, and declining civic engagement,
• 6 future scenarios for 2035, created by participants based on these challenges,
• concrete actions that young people, communities, NGOs, and policymakers can take to reduce gender inequalities.
