{"id":3334,"date":"2016-10-01T15:58:06","date_gmt":"2016-10-01T15:58:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aleg-romania.eu\/conference-equality-and-prevention-of-gender-violence-in-education\/"},"modified":"2016-10-01T15:58:06","modified_gmt":"2016-10-01T15:58:06","slug":"conference-equality-and-prevention-of-gender-violence-in-education","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aleg-romania.eu\/en\/conference-equality-and-prevention-of-gender-violence-in-education\/","title":{"rendered":"Conference \u201cEquality and Prevention of Gender Violence in Education\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u201eIn order to build healthy relationships, we need education closely connected to the problems in the lives of young people, and the involvement of schools is essential\u201d \u2013 this is the conclusion of the Gender Equality Festival, \u00a0after 3 days dedicated to the prevention of gender-based violence by promoting equality between women and men.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Friday, October 14<sup>th<\/sup>, the counsellor of the Ministry of Education, Mr. Eugen Crai, and the State Secretary representing Ministry of Labour&#8217;s National Agency for Equal Opportunities between Women and Men, Ms. Andra Croitoru participated at the\u00a0<b>Conference <\/b>\u201c<b><i>Equality and Prevention of Gender Violence in Education<\/i><\/b>\u201d, listening to the thoughts and recommendations of the 10 high schools which tested the educational module proposed by A.L.E.G. in the school year 2015\/2016. <a href=\"https:\/\/aleg-romania.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Premiere-concurs-Dezvatam-violenta.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2836\" style=\"margin: 12px;\" src=\"https:\/\/aleg-romania.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Premiere-concurs-Dezvatam-violenta.jpg\" alt=\"Premiere concurs Dezvatam violenta\" width=\"270\" height=\"176\" \/><\/a>\u201c<b><i>It was no ordinary class, i.e. we did not sit at our desks listening to scientific theories.<\/i><\/b><b><i> We were involved in role plays, encouraged to express our own opinions and to find solutions to actual cases of partner violence. <\/i><\/b><b><i>All youngsters should go through this module, since we never talk about these things at home<\/i><\/b>\u201d, states Andrei-Gabriel Stupu, a former pupil of the \u201cAnghel Saligny\u201d Technical High School in Bac\u0103u, presently a pupil of the \u201cJean Monnet\u201d Theoretical High School in Bucharest. Andrei and his colleagues in the 10<sup>th<\/sup> grade also won the grand prize of the video production competition \u201cUnlearning Violence\u201d. Some of their conclusions were: in a healthy relationship, the two share power, and jealousy is not proof of love! A special prize went to the pupils of the \u201cOctavian Goga\u201d National High School, Sibiu. During the project \u201cGEAR against Intimate Partner Violence II\u201d,<b><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/b>funded through the European Union Daphne Programme, A.L.E.G. Trained 55 teachers and school counsellors to implement the module; subsequently, 274 pupils in Br\u0103ila, Bac\u0103u, Cugir, Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu and Slobozia went through the 13 hours of interactive activities. The A.L.E.G. Trainers also held a module with a group of 12 youngsters from the Sibiu \u201cGulliver\u201d State Complex (including their educators), because the young people in the child protection system are vulnerable to repeated violence.\u00a0 The children\u2019s and teacher\u2019s manuals can be downloaded at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.gear-ipv.eu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>www.gear-ipv.eu<\/b><\/a>. <a href=\"https:\/\/aleg-romania.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/14639833_700776973412281_4898310991858518588_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-2840\" style=\"margin: 12px;\" src=\"https:\/\/aleg-romania.eu\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/14639833_700776973412281_4898310991858518588_n-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"14639833_700776973412281_4898310991858518588_n\" width=\"239\" height=\"179\" \/><\/a>The representatives of the two Ministries states in Sibiu that such materials and good practice examples are very necessary in Romania, which, starting this year, has the obligation to integrate violence preventive education in all levels of education, in accordance with the Council of Europe Convention on preventing and combating violence against women and domestic violence.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">In parallel to the conference, in the centre of Sibiu, volunteers holding huge letters challenged passers-by to find the \u201cIngredients of a Healthy Relationship\u201d, during the activity \u201c<b>Choose your words!<\/b>\u201d. Over 80 people were engaged, and the most common answers were \u201ctrust\u201d and \u201ccommunication\u201d.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">On Saturday, October 15<sup>th<\/sup>, at the Habitus Book Store, over 80 young people, and some parents participated at the forum theatre performance, in an attempt to change the ending of a theatre play \u2013 <i>Chalet Party<\/i> \u2013 created by A.L.E.G. volunteers and inspired from real events in high school pupil\u2019s lives. This year\u2019s performance brought to light some of the peer pressures that nowadays young people have to deal with in their relationships, i.e. girls, having a boyfriend who supports them financially, and boys, not be seen as henpecked and break as many hearts as possible. These pressures cause trouble for the couple, and sometimes violence. In order to solve the conflict, the participants suggested changes through which the true friends of the main characters choose get involved before getting to a conflict. Coordinator: Doriana T\u0103ut, vice-dean of the Faculty of Letters and Arts, the LBUS Department of Drama and Theatre Studies.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">The film \u201cStockholm\u201d, offered by Transilvania Film and the \u201cGender Treasure Hunt\u201d which took place in the historical centre of the city also drew the attention of numerous youngsters eager to look beyond clich\u00e9s and stereotypes regarding the role of women and men in society.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/aleg-romania.eu\/en\/\"><b>A.L.E.G<\/b><\/a>. has been organizing this event for over 10 years, allowing teenagers to come up with and implement activities aimed at other youngsters.
