A.L.E.G. at Sirene Festival, Palermo
For A.L.E.G., June brought an exchange of experiences in Palermo, Italy, at the Sirene Festival organized by Maghweb, a partner organization in the European IRIS project.
The A.L.E.G. delegation participated in the third edition of the Sirene Festival, a collective space for reflection and dialogue dedicated to sexual and reproductive health, self-determination, consent, and equal rights. Hosted by EPYC, a European youth center in Palermo with a vibrant and diverse community of young people, the festival brought together activists, artists, sexual and reproductive health professionals, and members of the local community, including migrants. Through workshops, debates, and performances, participants had the opportunity to share experiences, learn best practices from one another, and develop new perspectives on sexual and reproductive rights.
One of the workshops that offered us valuable insight into how art can bring hidden realities to light and support necessary changes in society was the one led by Ludovica Anzaldi, a photographer and activist. Starting with an exploration of the body, gender, vulnerability, and the political dimension of the image, the workshop challenged us to reflect on how we construct a personal narrative and transform individual experiences into messages with social impact. The discussions addressed both the creative process behind a photographic series and the ways in which photography, alongside music and theater, can help convey clear and accessible messages to the public.
The 2026 Gender Equality Festival® will take place in Sibiu from October 8-10, with the involvement of the project’s partner organizations, as well as other collaborators from Romania and Eastern Europe.
