No National Coordination Body in Romania for Domestic Violence

In Romania, responsibility for the issue of domestic violence was since 2010 under the Ministry of Labour, Family and Elderly, under the Child Protection Directorate. Recently, through a new piece of legislation the Child Protection Directorate is canceled and the responsibilities transfered to a new body, without regard to the issue of family violence which at the moment remains with no national coordination body. Twenty NGOs requested the government to show that ending violence against women is a political priority and to urgently find a solution and set up a specific coordination body in line with the provisions of the Istanbul Convention.
